Fire ravaged the isolation ward of our cat sanctuary, taking the lives of eight of our cats. Three remain in oxygen tents in the critical care unit of the vet hosptial and six are still unaccounted for. All of the remaining residents were safely evacuated, evaluated and placed in carriers prior to thier assignment to a foster care placement. Two additional kittens were abandoned and another cat needing a leg amputation was delivered to the vet moments before the fire.

What we lost today can never be replaced, but we do need support to rebuild, heal and move forward with our vital work. Please donate and share this with everyone you know.

Reconstruction Update:
Thanks to all of our supporters, construction work is underway at the sanctuary!
Selective demolition has been completed, insulation and new electrical systems are largely done and new drywall finishes are being installed.  New photos have been added so you can see the work in progress.
We have a long road ahead of us and no firm date for re-opening yet but we are looking forward to the process of returning our fosters to a new and sparkling facility in early 2014!
"When everything seems so wrong, your life isn't falling apart - God is rebuilding it to make you stronger and wiser."
Thanks to all of our caring donors from around the world - and Happy Thanksgiving.

Our initial goal of 50K has been met in one short week! After assessing the damage and evaluating the insurance, we have decided to increase our goal. The entire electrical system in the building must be upgraded and the feasibility of a sprinkler system explored. Although the insurance will not cover modifications to the entire building, we deem it necessary to ensure this never happens again. Please continue to post and ask others to do the same.Thank you all for your continued support.

All three of the cats at the ER have been taken off the critical care list and have the potential to be relased this week! Several of the cats in foster care have developed symptoms of smoke inhalation and need veterinary care.

We have begun to assess additional structural preventitive measures besides the rebuilding of our Isolation Ward.

MHAA is extremely grateful for the outpouring of support  we have received.

Thank you to all who have so generously supported us during this awful tragedy. We have uploaded photos of Midget, Ernie, and Twinkie who are currently in oxygen tents fighting to survive. Twinkie was revived on the scene by courageous firefighter Gary Simmonds. Please continue to share and support.
